CARROT RIVER — Carrot River council voted to hire Brennan Hall as the administrator in training, a role to serve as succession planning to be the next town administrator.

His role will start Oct. 1.

Hall has previously worked accounting for the town and program assistant with community development.

“I made the announcement to the town council a year ago, it was private, in confidence that this was my plan, so then council actually had their ears to the ground,” said Kevin Trew, the town’s current administrator.

“Brennan has been working out really well for us.”

During the regular council meeting on Sept. 23, Trew officially announced to the public his intention to leave the role.

“Long story short, my family has different needs that would be better served in the city,” Trew said, adding that these include both health needs and that his children have moved on to university.

“We’ve been doing a lot of travelling to Saskatoon for health reasons for quite a few years, but it has gotten to be more important to be closer to the city.”

Hall has a bachelor of commerce, the same degree as Trew.

“He has the education piece required to become an administrator,” Trew said, adding Hall still requires a yearlong mentorship experience.

Trew will remain as the administrator until a new full-time job becomes available closer to the city and will be training Hall to fill the role in the meantime .

“I’m hoping to stay in municipal government. I may not be working in the city, I may be working in a community outside of Saskatoon – just closer to the city.”

Trew became Carrot River’s administrator in 2012.

“Truth be told I only didn’t live in Carrot River for eight years in my life,” he said, reflecting back. “I’ve lived here for 42 of my 50 years.”
