Last year, it was a side-splitting, knee-slapping, belly-laughter affair and this year, it can only get better.
It's the second-annual Raise the Woof comedy show to be held Oct. 19 at the Legion Hall here in Humboldt and despite the city being small scale compared to bigger city venues, the show itself is far from amateur.
Comedian James Uloth, along with two other notable comedians, which changes each year, tour around the United States and Canada, playing stand-up shows to raise money for local animal shelters.
It's a unique endeavor and certainly one that is appreciated by the Humboldt SPCA, who have been struggling with funds for quite some time now.
"It was fantastic last year," said Kathleen Forster, president of the local SPCA. "I've never laughed so hard in my life. People were just roaring the entire time."
That's because Uloth and his fellow comedians aren't newbies to the game: they've appeared on Comedy Central, the Just For Laughs festival in Montreal and HBO.
So yeah, they know what they're doing.
The jokes are clean, so kids are welcome, although the event will stretch well into the evening.
Cocktails will start at 7 p.m., with the show beginning at 8. After an hour, food will be served at 9 p.m., with the second half of the show following that.
There will also be a silent auction and 50/50 draw, so attendees have a chance of leaving the night with more than just a sore stomach from laughing so hard.
To purchase tickets and reserve a spot, stop by the Humboldt SPCA on Highway 5 East.
Or, to reserve tickets at the door, phone the shelter at 306-682-5550 or e-mail [email protected].
"Everyone should come out to this," Forster said. "Last year, the turn out was huge and the response was overwhelming.
People couldn't stop talking about it."
