Saturday, the second annual community dinner will be held at the Lashburn Community Hall to help make an impact in the fight against muscular dystrophy.
This community dinner is to help support Preston Coolidge , a local Lashburn youth who was recently diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
Leading this event is Preston's mother, Geri who is committed more than ever to demonstrate how important this community event is to families affected by muscular dystrophy. The success if last year's fundraiser demonstrates how important community support is to families who live with neuromuscular disorders, according to a press release.
Last year the Lashburn fundraiser raised $46,000 to fund research to find a cure. This year George Reed joins the event as a keynote speaker to follow dinner. Entertainment for the evening is Midlife Crisis.
Muscular Dystophy refers to a group of progressive muscle disorders that weaken the muscles that control body movement. These disorders can have devastating affects, resulting in the loss of most abilities we take for granted. Over time, many people with neuromuscular disorders are unable to walk, speak or ultimately breathe. All too often, the disorder is fatal. All of muscular Dystrophy Canada's programs are made possible by donations. The organization receives less than one per cent in government funding.
Events taking place on Saturday include a dinner silent auction and 50/50 draw. Tickets are available at: Coolidge Hearing, Lloydminster; AG Foods, Maidstone; Lashburn Corner Store; Lashburn Hotel and Bar; and Synergy Credit Union in Lashburn.
