MELFORT — Ryan Danberg has been hired by the City of Melfort to be their new city manager.

He will start his new role on Jan. 1.

Danberg has previously worked as the facilities manager and community services director in Melfort for two and a half years. He has also worked as director of operations at Elk Ridge Resort and general manager of the Melfort Golf and Country Club.

“I certainly have taken a shift in career,” Danberg said. “One thing that I do like is working with and working developing people so that’s where I moved into administration with the city, and that’s what I’m going to focus on now.”

He studied business administration in Lethbridge, Alta. He spent two years at Lethbridge Community College and two years at the University of Lethbridge.

Danberg said that he feels that this job is a good opportunity to serve his community.

“My biggest thing is I like to work and develop people, I really like to work with people in a leadership role and I felt it’s a good opportunity to serve my community at the highest level,” Danberg said. “We’re working and we’re operating as far as big announcements go, there will be some announcements early in January as far as some infrastructure projects go, but right now my current focus is on the team and leading the current team in place.”

His role was announced in a press release on Dec. 20.

“Ryan has a strong work ethic, is committed to the community and cares about citizens and staff,” saidRick Lang, Melfort’s mayor, in the release. “Ryan is dedicated to growing the community and we look forward to working with him to meet the challenges and embrace opportunities as we strategically plan for the future of the City of Melfort.”

Danberg describes himself as an “outdoors person” who enjoys fishing, hockey, golf, and going on excursions with his young family of four.

“I cherish the opportunity to fill the city manager role now moving forward,” Danberg said “Just try to make our city a better place a resilient community, that’s what my goal is.”
