Three individuals are facing charges under the Controlled Drug and Substances Act after a search conducted in Leask Friday.
Prince Albert Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit conducted an investigation on a property in that community. With assistance from Blaine Lake detachment, members executed a CDSA search warrant and seized a number of items.
The individuals arrested are:
Staci Bates, 33, of Leask. She is charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking methamphetamine.
Devin Johnstone, 25, of Prince Albert. He is charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking methamphetamine.
Blair McKenzie, 27 years old of Little Red River First Nation, He was arrested on several outstanding warrants from Prince Albert Police Service for possessing methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and also faces an additional Criminal Code charge of carrying a weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public peace.
During the search, police seized 22 grams of methamphetamine and 28 individually wrapped pieces, or four grams, of a substance believed to be DMT or N, N-Dimethyltryptamine. The substance will be sent to Health Canada for analysis.
According to police this is the first known instance of DMT being seized in Prince Albert and the surrounding area. DMT is a Schedule III substance considered a powerful hallucinogenic tryptamine drug, one that is mixed with various other controlled substances including methamphetamine.
Other items seized in the investigation were drug paraphernalia, a vehicle and numerous electronics.
The RCMP and the CFSEU are taking the opportunity to warn the public again about the dangers of illicit and unknown drugs. Police say street drugs can often be misrepresented as one thing while being something completely different, and mixing various agents can create a deadly combination.
