The decision by Saskatchewan Transportation Company to drop its regular route from Blaine Lake to North Battleford came as a disappointment to Mayor Ian Hamilton.

STC dropped the route last week, citing low ridership levels. It was one of three cut by STC.

"That is unfortunate for residents of Blaine Lake and those coming from the east to the Battlefords who might be users of that service," noted Hamilton.

In speaking to reporters Tuesday, however, Hamilton said he understood "ridership did not warrant the continuation of that route at a very significant cost."

He likened the decision to the City's own recent budget deliberations, difficult decisions as to services to be provided were made.

Still, he was disappointed.

"We feel badly for the individuals impacted by that, and we always like to attract outside residents to the city. That's one less means for people to come and shop in the city of North Battleford. I hope there will be other things that can mitigate the impact on those users."
