Dillon man wanted by RCMP granted bail in Meadow Lake court

RCMP had released Brian Janvier's photo asking the public's help locating him.

MEADOW LAKE – A Dillon man who was wanted by police after the body of a woman was recovered from Beaver River has been granted bail.

Brian John Janvier, 36, was apprehended at a residence on Cold Lake First Nation by Alberta RCMP two days after police released his photo on Sept. 22 and asked the public’s help to locate him.

Janiver was charged with dangerous driving causing death, impaired driving, driving while over .08, possession of a firearm in a vehicle, unsafe storage of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm/prohibited weapon when unauthorized, and possession of a firearm with ammunition without a license.

The charges stem from an incident on Aug. 24 when Meadow Lake RCMP say they received a report that a vehicle was submerged in Beaver River off of Highway 903. A man survived and was standing on top of the submerged truck when police arrived but the body of a 20-year-old woman from Dillon was found inside deceased. Police also found a loaded handgun in the truck.

Janvier's bail hearing was on Oct. 6 and he is back in court Oct. 24 to enter an election. The charges against him haven’t been tested in court.
