Battlefords Union Hospital Foundation received two donations Monday totalling more than $4,000.
Members of the Historic Battlefords Lions Club presented a $2,000 cheque to BUHF Executive Director Claudette McGuire. Lion Marie Milnthorpe says their group supports the BUHF because the money stays within the community and saves people in the Battlefords and surrounding areas a trip to Saskatoon.
McGuire added that the donation will be put towards new surgical equipment for the ear nose and throat specialist who started at the hospital in October. The current equipment is 40 years old and McGuire says, "It's impossible to recruit good surgeons without having the equipment."
The next cheque was donated to the BUHF on behalf of the Candlelight Processional. Paul Sayers and Peg Gilchrist, co-producers of the choir performance held for the first time this year, says the intention was always to donate the show's proceeds to the BUHF.
The donation amount of $2,175 was higher than expected because three choir groups who participated in the performance donated their honorariums.
Sayers and Gilchrist both say they were motivated to donate to the hospital because they've had members of their families depend on it.
