North Battleford may not be getting WestJet Encore regional service any time soon, but Saskatchewan will be.

Fresh off their initial announcement of the first routes for the new airline, WestJet Encore made a further announcement Tuesday of plans for a new Calgary-Saskatoon route.

The route will be in addition to four flights currently operated by WestJet between the two cities.

The service to Saskatoon commences June 24 and will use the new Bombardier Q400 turboprop aircraft seating 78 passengers.

WestJet Encore also plans to take on a Calgary-Regina route, starting in August, using the same aircraft.

The Saskatchewan routes were among several announced Tuesday by WestJet, who also announced expanded service to Calgary, Edmonton and Grande Prairie. WestJet announced service will be expanded to year-round from seasonal between Calgary and Grande Prairie starting in August, and the number of daily flights between Calgary and Edmonton are slated to increase to nine from seven, starting in September.

In addition, the main WestJet airline is adding three additional flights per week to Toronto from Saskatoon and Regina as part of their summer schedule.

Just the week before, WestJet Encore rolled out their initial routes to British Columbia, including new service to Nanaimo and to Fort St. John.
