THE BATTLEFORDS - Environment Canada has continued its winter storm warning for the northwest and extended it to most of the province.
Hazardous winter conditions are expected.
A winter storm that brought heavy snow and freezing rain last night, continues today.
A low pressure system moving into the region will bring heavy snow to parts of central Saskatchewan today and tonight. A band of freezing rain moved through the area last night. Heavy snow began yesterday afternoon and spread east throughout the evening. A break from the heaviest snow is expected today before the next band of heavy snow moves in this afternoon and into tonight.
The snow band itself will produce 15 to 30 cm of snow, with locally higher amounts possible by Tuesday evening.
This afternoon, winds in western parts of the warning will strengthen, gusting between 60 and 80 km/h giving reduced visibility in blowing snow.
Snow will end by early Wednesday.
Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight.
