Paynton Volunteer Fire Department has been busy trainingmost Wednesdays this summer and into the fall.

On the weekend of Sept. 27 to 29,five of Paynton's firefighters volunteered three days to learn the finer points of the job.

Taking four different courses, the volunteers walked away with certificates in 1090Wildland Instructors course, 1000 Orientation Level 1 and 1005 SCBA Level 2as well asPump Operations and Maintenance.

Maidstone and Waseca also participated along with many other localand distant provincial fire departments that sent about 160 volunteers in total.

Every spring and fall, the SVFFA (Saskatchewan Volunteer Firefighters Association) teams up with a fire department within the province who co-hosts the three day event. This fall and for the second year in a row, the huge task was taken on by the North Battleford Fire and Emergency Services. Deputy Chief Brian Wilson and his dedicated team, including new fire Chief Albert Headrick, put on a great event and kept the students fed and entertained when they were not learning. The food provided was delicious, Second to None catering did a wonderful job keeping the hungry men and women fed.

This was Deputy Wilson's last task as a North Battleford Fire Department member and has now moved on to Moose Jaw Fire Department where he and his family will enjoy their new surroundings.
