FOAM LAKE — Horizon School Division said it is closing Foam Lake Elementary School for a day after a case of COVID-19 was diagnosed in an individual with a connection to the school.

"Operating out of an abundance of care and safety for the health and wellness of our students, staff and families, Horizon School Division has made the precautionary decision will be closed for the day on Friday, Oct. 9," said a letter signed by Kevin Garinger, the division's director of education.

"This decision will allow Public Health time to continue their important work surrounding this case."

School is expected to resume on Tuesday, Oct. 13, after the Thanksgiving long weekend.

Foam Lake Composite School will remain open, but a graduation ceremony planned for Friday, Oct. 9 will be postponed.

"Public Health will be contacting community members who may have been in close contact with the case," Garinger said. "Public Health will provide direction as they deem necessary. If you do not hear from [Public] Health, you or your family member have not been exposed to the virus."

The letter asked people to continue monitoring for symptoms of COVID-19.
