The dreary, bitter cold of a February day is enough to keep most of us indoors, guarding our warmth, hoping for spring or a quick jaunt to Mexico.
But one Battlefords resident was drawn out into the cold, and onto his motorcycle, to commemorate the life of a "brother in life and in death."
Don Polsfut, with a custom-created patch dedicated to Kim Meisel on his back, rode around North Battleford Monday. Polsfut described Meisel as "solid right from day one," and stated that Meisel would have been out with him riding if he were able. Polsfut gave his heartfelt condolences to Meisel's mother, Gertrude Meisel, and his partner, Leona Landry.
Meisel, who began a long career in the newspaper field as a carrier in the early 1970s, was employed by Battlefords Publishing at the time of his death from cancer on the weekend.
As an employee of McIntosh Publishing, and later Battlefords Publishing, Meisel, 49, began his career as a darkroom technician. As the newspaper industry moved into the computer age, Meisel moved right along with it, evolving into a highly skilled technician with a vast knowledge of computers, networks and other technology.
Though Polsfut was the only one riding this time, he hopes to set up a ride some time in the summer in Meisel's honour. Anyone interested in joining the ride in the summer can contact Don Polsfut at 446-4643 or at 441-3189.
A memorial service for Meisel is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at the Denholm Community Hall.
