The Blaine Lake Community Association (BLCA) hosted its annual Wayne Horner open spiel Jan. 8 with six rinks registered.
The funspiel is held annually in memory of Wayne Horner, who was instrumental in establishing the BLCA. Horner was an avid curler and supporter of recreational facilities within the community.
The games consisted of four ends. Spectators for the day enjoyed a variety of skilled curling and good sportsmanship.
The A event winning rink of Dale Horner, Vanessa Horner, Erica Horner and Jack Popoff defeated the Chad Timm, Lloyd Koolick, Denise Timm and Leo Charney rink in a shoot out.
The Max Jupe rink, consisting of Cheryl Arcand, Stacey Sutherland and Ryan Hoffman, defeated the Jason Sherstobetoff rink of Twila Pambrun, Austin Sherstobetoff and Rob Pambrun to win the B event.
The C event was won by the young rink of Michael Horner, Dylan Pool, Jadon Pool and Adam Horner. They defeated Dawn Wilson, Wendy Onishenko, Robert Horner and Cole Onishenko rink.
Curling can be enjoyed by all ages either as a participant or spectator sport. The availability of a stick enables virtually anyone to deliver the rock. The next bonspiel will be the Grandma and Grandpa Spiel Feb. 12. For more information about upcoming Blaine Lake bonspiels call 497-2222.
