Gearing up for Canada Day

Summer is just around the corner and plans are being made for Maidstone's annual Canada Day celebration.

Summer is just around the corner and plans are being made for Maidstone's annual Canada Day celebration.

The July 1 sports day will be held at the museum grounds and Delfrari-Victoria Park with a pancake breakfast at the Legion Hall beginning at 7:30 a.m. and continuing until the parade is set to start at 10 a.m.

Slo-pitch registrations are being taken by Jim Johnston at 893-2887.

Volunteers are always welcome and the committee is grateful to have new members who are going to revive the golf cart Divorce Races.

There will be an opportunity for all ages to compete and enjoy the day with baby crawl races, a bike decorating contest, horseshoes, slow tractor races, children's races, a straw scramble and bingo. Craft vendors are invited to register for a space and food will be for sale on the grounds.

Tents have been booked for the main stage and the beverage area and the fireworks are set to be better than ever. The committee is still looking for a few entertainers for the main stage and is happily taking suggestions for the day from the community.

For more information or to volunteer please call the Town of Maidstone office at 893-2373.
