NIPAWIN — Gregory Sproat has become the newest president of the Nipawin & District Chamber of Commerce, taking over the role from Ben Paskaruk.

Sproat said his aim is to build on the business initiatives the Chamber has in place and create more e-commerce opportunities for the business community.

“We’re pivoting to provide tools, resources to help further our members to compete in the digital market space, create better online presence as well as look at opportunities in the e-commerce world because that’s the way we’re going,” Sproat said.

“The pandemic has forced a lot of companies to adapt and pivot or basically die out— so we’re adapting along with the business community.”

Sproat first came to Nipawin in 2018, taking over the existing dental practice with his wife, Ashley Sproat, from Dwight Harper who was retiring. At Nipawin Dental Centre, Gregory took care of the financial side of the business, while Ashley handled the dental aspect. Sproat has been involved with the Chamber for the past three years as a board member.

He said the decision to become the Chamber’s president was made through a conversation with himself, and executive director Lisa Suchlandt.

“I think it was an opportunity for me to leverage some of my experience and just try to help the business community of Nipawin. Already being familiar with the Chamber obviously helps and a better understanding of the economic landscape of the north east.”

The official swearing in, which would typically take place during the Chamber’s AGM and ABEX Awards Gala, is planned to take place during March.

“We would like to express for those members, and individuals who are interested in seeing if there are any benefits to their business by being a member of the Nipawin Chamber, to always feel they can reach out to myself or our executive director.”

The Nipawin & District Chamber of Commerce can be reached at 306-862-5252.
