Hearing starts today for man charged in Alex Whitehead's death

Alex Whitehead was found suffering from life-threatening injuries on Jan. 1, 2022. He died in hospital.

PRINCE ALBERT – A preliminary hearing to determine if there is enough evidence for a man to stand trial on a charge of second-degree murder in 20-year-old Alex Whitehead's death starts today.

There is a publication ban on the hearing for 22-year-old Richard Budd in Prince Albert Provincial Court. Budd is also charged with aggravated assault, and break and enter with intent to commit an indictable offence.

According to Prince Albert Police, they responded to a home in the 200 block of 13 Street East shortly before 4 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2022, for a weapons call. When police arrived, they found Whitehead suffering from life-threatening injuries. He was taken to Victoria hospital where he later died.

Whitehead was remembered by friends and family as being helpful, kind, and having a way of making everyone feel good.
