HUMBOLDT — While the Saskatchewan government announced that indoor pools can now reopen as part of Phase 4 of the Reopen Saskatchewan plan, Humboldt's Aquatic Centre won’t reopen yet.
Michael Ulriksen, Humboldt’s leisure services director, said city staff are busily preparing for the centre to open at the end of July.
“We have recalled our lifeguarding staff and our admin staff. We're excited to have them back up and going. [There’s] lots of information coming out through our communication lines.”
For now, the tentative date is July 27 for the aquatic centre to reopen, and Ulriksen is hopeful they can hit that date but staff will not know for sure until early next week.
While staff are excited for the aquatic centre to be open up again, it will not be what it was like before, Ulriksen said.
“There's definitely some distancing guidelines and some of those things that are in place and disinfecting and just some increased standards that we have to sit down and work through.”
Once staff receive proper training and confidence in regulation compliance, Ulriksen said they will also start looking into regular programming and public swimming.
