Jul. 27, 1996 was a historic day for the Humboldt Uniplex.

That was the day that the Humboldt Aquatic Centre opened its doors for the first time.

The Centre celebrated this achievement with free swimming, a history display, and cupcakes on Jul. 27.

Around 140 swimmers took advantage of swimming between 2 to 5 p.m., says Aquatic Manager, Pam Adam.

In 1993, the Humboldt Indoor Public Pool Operations group started raising funds to open a pool in Humboldt. Humboldt is one of the only rural indoor pools in Saskatchewan with the nearest ones being in Saskatoon, Regina, Yorkton, and Melfort.

Compared to many outdoor facilities, running all year long for those 20 years has really made this a well utilized part of the Humboldt area, says Adam.

“Our biggest, most well attended season is the spring. February until May is crazy, our numbers are outstanding.”

Upon opening, HIPPO continued to fundraiser for the waterslide, which was installed in 2001 with the help of the JCIs.

Adam has 20 years of patrons to thank. With them the Aquatic Centre has been a huge success.
