HUMBOLDT — Event rentals from the Humboldt Community Gathering Place will continue, with proof of vaccine or a negative COVID-19 for entry as per the requirement of Saskatchewan’s Public Health Order.
In the rental, it is the responsibility of the event organizer to ensure patrons are in compliance with the regulations, and masks are required to be worn while inside.
Kari Cenciosi, the Gathering Place’s manager, said that while they are still open for business, increased regulations and COVID-19 wave have resulted in some events being cancelled for the venue. This includes the planned weekly open-mic night for local musicians as well as a fundraiser sock hop scheduled for late October with the Soup Kitchen.
“We actually can’t offer our facility to anyone who is unvaccinated or does not want to cooperate in asking that their guests can show proof of vaccination,” Cenciosi said.
“It was just starting to get busy, and then the mandates hit so many of them pulled out because they’re careful and they are afraid, they’re mostly seniors, and at that age they’re vulnerable.”
While showing proof of a recent 72 hour negative COVID-19 test is an option, Cenciosi said the fee for regular testing is a barrier on its own for an event venue.
“I think that eliminates a lot of people who live on a limited income to have to pay for a test every time they want to attend an event, so their only choice then is to just opt out.”

Continued users include the Humboldt Soup Kitchen and the International Harvest Church. Cenciosi said the Humboldt Theatre Club is also beginning weekly rehearsals in the venue. Per provincial regulations, places of worship, weddings, funerals and wakes do not require proof, but she said with the COVID-19 wave some have still needed to cancel.
“I’ve had people book funerals and needed to cancel because someone in their immediate family contracted COVID and they’re just obviously not having a gathering at that point.”
