Out at Fort Battleford, Indigenous Peoples Day began with a pipe ceremony, followed by entertainment for children, storytelling, wagon rides and free hot dogs at lunch time.
Guest speakers were on hand followed by a cannon firing.
Downtown in North Battleford, a pancake breakfast took place in the morning at Battle River Treaty Six Health Centre. The occasion was also marked by the signing of a regional co-operative framework between the Battlefords and nearby First Nations.
Battle River Treaty Six Health Centre is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.
Urban Treaty Day will be observed Wednesday, June 26. Registration begins at the Dekker Centre at 9 a.m., followed by the Grand Entry at 10 a.m. There will be a mini competition powwow and various activities for children. Soup and bannock will also be served.
