It’s pothole season in North Battleford

If you see a pothole, let the city know, says Director of City Operations Stewart Schafer

Director of City Operations Stewart Schafer updated council on pothole response.

NORTH BATTLEFORD - Spring has sprung, and that only can mean one thing: it's pothole season again in North Battleford and throughout the province.

At their Planning Committee meeting Monday, council asked Director of City Operations Stewart Schafer about the pothole response. Councillor Bill Ironstand noted at least a couple of residents reported rim damage to their cars due to hitting potholes.

Schafer responded that they were out doing pothole repair and welcomed input on where they are located.

"If anyone sees a nasty pothole, please let us know," said Schafer.

Schafer also acknowledged the challenges of the freeze-thaw cycle right now, noting that with the thaw during the day and freezing at night, the patches are "popping out very quickly."

City Manager Randy Patrick added that right now they are using cold mix but it "does not work as well, it won't last as long. It will have to be redone." In the higher traffic areas, the city will be going back to them, he said.
