Momentum keeps building for Biggar’s revitalization project, which landed a big time Hollywood endorsement this past week.
Actor Kim Coates, known for his roles in TV series Sons of Anarchy and Bad Blood, as well as several film roles, has put out a video voicing his support for the project.
Before making it big in Hollywood, Coates had his humble beginnings growing up in Saskatoon. In the video, Coates recalled the times he would go through Biggar with his family to visit nearby relatives.
“Biggar’s my favourite town, you all know that,” Coates said. “How ‘bout a revitalization project for Biggar? This is about the streetscape, we need better sidewalks, we need flowers, we need some things to pop that incredible community. It’s time. it’s beyond time.”
The Biggar revitalization project will revamp and upgrade the downtown core and Main Street, and transform the CNR grounds into a multi-use park and tourist hub. The approved concept plan was released in April and focuses on four zones: the gateway entrance, transition zone, business core and the grand central park.
Former Biggar residents Wayne and Ina Lou Brownlee have committed $2.5 Million to the revitalization project through their foundation, and a fundraising campaign is on seeking matching funds for the project from the public.
