LANIGAN, MUENSTER — Two local projects are benefitting from a $33 million infrastructure announcement made by the federal and provincial and provincial governments.
The Lanigan and District Water Park Project will receive around $1.1 million from the federal government and $926,000 from the province, with the remaining $741,000 funded by the municipality and other sources.
The Muenster Community Center’s Wheelchair Accessibility Project will receive around $39,000 from the feds and almost $33,000 from the province, with the remaining $26,000 coming from other sources.
The announcement was made at the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities convention on March 9. The money will fund 26 projects, with the federal government spending $21 million and the province $12 million.
“These projects in Saskatchewan will provide better access to community amenities such as playgrounds and swimming pools, update sewage systems and provide reliable, efficient water services,” said Jim Carr, the federal government’s special representative for the Prairies.
It was 1971 when the current Lanigan pool was built. The concrete is cracked, the filtration and disinfection system isn’t good enough to keep a paddling pool open, the circulation system isn’t the best and there’s a minimum entry of three feet, making it harder for little kids to enjoy the pool.
