North Battleford council received some good news Monday with the much-anticipated presentation of three new building plans in the city.

Plans were presented for a new Battlefords Boys and Girls Club building, the Caleb Village retirement project and a pilot/research scale addition in the former Cangro processors feedmill.

Plans for the three buildings have been anticipated for some time by council. Nevertheless the building plans were greeted with enthusiasm from building inspector Jerry Wintonyk who presented them to council Monday.

According to the plans presented, the new Boys and Girls Club building is to be located at 1301-104th Street and would be used for administration and as the clubhouse. It would be two storeys, 3,292 square feed on the main floor and 3,170 square feet on the second floor. The club would be moving in from its previous building on 104th Street.

RMB Architecture is the architect and Lyle V. Schell Construction Management Services Ltd. of North Battleford is the contractor. The project is valued at $1,150,000.

The Caleb Village retirement project is owned by Caleb Group of Companies, and is the proposed 94-unit residential property to be built at 1802-106th Street, where the Kinsmen Aquatic Centre and former tennis courts are currently located.

The development would include 14 studio condo apartments, 52 one-bedroom units and 28 two-bedroom units. It would be four storeys in height. A zoning change to R-4 Residential was previously approved by council to make room for the project.

SEPW Architecture of Saskatoon is the architect and Caleb Group is the owner and general contractor, with the value of the permit estimated at $13,500,000.

According to the building plan, 94 parking stalls are required and 97 have been approved on the plan. The proposal also includes two detached parking garages to house 33 vehicles.

It was noted that the building itself will be where the tennis courts used to be, and construction should start very quickly on that.

The third building plan presented was by the applicant, Cargill Animal Nutrition Engineering, for the alteration in the former Cangro processors feedmill.

The feedmill had been bought by the University of Saskatchewan which is partnering with Cargill to build a pilot/research scale addition to the existing property at 10033 Marquis Avenue, to be used for the Canadian Feed Research Centre and Manufacturing Plant.

It will be part of an existing four-storey 18,000 square foot complex located in the M-2 Industrial zone. Van Sickle Allen and Associates is the architect and EMW Industrial the contractor for the project. The addition is valued at $4,800,000.
