Summer has arrived and so have the new faces in the municipal office in Blaine Lake. Angela Johnson will be working in the municipal office for the next few months as a temporary receptionist for both the Town of Blaine Lake and the Rural Municipality of Blaine Lake, as well as performing the secretary/treasurer duties for the Blaine Lake Community Association.
Summer student employees are Jerritt Onishenko and Christie Rae Glencross. Jerritt has been hired by the town through the provincial Student Summer Works program to assist staff with numerous landscaping and maintenance duties. The program provides employers with funding to hire students for the summer provided that students are returning to secondary or post-secondary institutes in the fall. Jerritt will be returning to Blaine Lake Composite School as a Grade 11 student.
Christie Rae Glencross has been hired by the town through the Canada Summer Jobs program which also provides employers with funding to hire students for summer employment. Christie performs many office duties as well as assisting with town projects such as the Centennial celebration and Communities in Bloom preparations.
The Blaine Lake public library has undergone exterior improvements. The replacement of the tin and asphalt shingle roof with cedar shingles was completed this spring. The $20,000 project was made possible with the assistance of $5,000 from the Saskatchewan Heritage Foundation and the remaining cost was equally divided and paid by the Town and Rural Municipality of Blaine Lake. The Blaine Lake library has a lot of reading material as well as talking and large print books. Stop by the library and check it out. Library hours are Tuesday from 2 pm to 5 pm; Wednesday and Friday from 1 pm to 5 pm; and Saturday from 1 pm to 4 pm.
