The Humboldt Vision Centre will have two new faces at their Quill Centre office with husband and wife, Trevor Styan and Paige Helmers joining the staff.
Originally from Tisdale, Styan started practicing as an optometrist in August of 2013. With Helmers, it took a little longer since she is originally from the United States and had to go through the process of getting permission to work in Canada.
She has been working as an optometrist since January 2015.
Since Dr. Curtis Knight was looking for new staff, Styan and Helmers saw the opportunity to join the Humboldt community.
With the retirement of Dr. David Guilbault, everything just seemed to work out for everyone, says Styan.
“Dr. Knight was looking for two young doctors to come in and we won’t ever be able to replace Dr. Guilbault but we’ll just try to do our best to put our own stamp on what we can do,” says Styan.
While Humboldt is the kind of community the two want to work in, Humboldt is even almost too big for them, says Styan.
However, Humboldt still has the amenities they want while still being small enough where patients are not just one-stop only before never seeing them again, he says.
“(It) still a good size but still with that small town feel,” he says.
Proximity to family who still remain in Tisdale, as well as distance to Saskatoon were also big selling points, says Helmers.
The couple also have a young daughter, so settling down meant a place to raise a family as well.
“We hope that it’s something to continue on and be here and raise our family here.”
