LANGHAM — A member of the School Community Council (SCC) at Langham Community School for the past three years, Emily Summach, was elected as the Prairie School trustee for Subdivision 3 (Borden and Langham) in a March 19 by-election.
Summach was one of two candidates running in the by-election and received 99 of the 102 votes cast.
“As a parent of two elementary age children, I’ve really come to value the gift that is public education,” Summach said, in a March 25 release.
“Healthy schools are an important part of thriving rural communities here in Saskatchewan. I wanted to run for the Prairie Spirit trustee position to support our schools in their mission of creating lifelong learners.”
In addition to serving on the Langham SCC, Summach is the chair of the Walter W. Brown School playground committee, which will be installing a new playground this spring, and loves volunteering in her children’s classrooms.
Summach is also the lead pastor at the Mount Royal Mennonite Church in Saskatoon and has a background in communications and administration.
She attended her first board meeting as a trustee on March 24.
“On behalf of the Prairie Spirit board of education, I am thrilled to congratulate Emily and give her a warm welcome,” said board chair Kate Kading. “We are excited to collaborate and make a meaningful impact for the students and staff of Prairie Spirit School Division.”
The March 19 by-election became necessary when the Subdivision 3 trustee elected in November stepped away from the role shortly afterwards.
Prairie Spirit serves more than 11,500 students in 45 schools and 28 communities surrounding the City of Saskatoon.
