HUMBOLDT — A new ultrasound clinic has opened in Humboldt at the Westwood Shopping Centre.

Henriette Lloyd, owner and operator for Ultrasound Clinic Humboldt, said the location will serve to “complement” other services that can be found at the local hospital.

“It’s basically all diagnostic ultrasound by referral only – so the patients have to see their doctor before they get referred here,” Lloyd said.

“At a hospital you have emergencies that you have to take care of right away so some of your cold cases sort of get pushed back and those would be the ones that we would definitely be able to assist with.”

The new clinic is a branch of Ultrasound Clinic Melfort. It also offers some ultrasounds that can’t be found at the Humboldt Hospital.

Lloyd said before this clinic opened, clients around Humboldt would have to drive to Melfort or Saskatoon to have some of these ultrasounds done, including musculoskeletal.

“It’s been pretty busy, lots of people being very grateful to get in and out and not have to drive to the city for their ultrasound,” she said.

“We had 15 patients today right off the bat.”

Other services they provide include soft tissue ultrasounds, early pregnancy, detection for placement of uterine devices, hernias, shoulders, knees, wrists, hips, ankles, salivary glands, carpal tunnel and more.

“You won’t know about us until you need us,” Lloyd said. “That’s generally how it works. I’ve never advertised for the Melfort one or this one, it’s by word of mouth and the doctors know we’re here so if they know you need an ultrasound they know to send it to us.”

The clinic officially opened March 15.

Lloyd said while they are working on the hospital backlog, she isn’t worried about long-term feasibility, as the clinic could be busy off musculoskeletal ultrasounds and additional services alone.

“There’s definitely more than enough work here possibly for another clinic,” she said.

“I don’t even have to see other patients that go to the hospital. It’s the joints and things like that and additional small parts.”
