A Nipawin councillor selected in a byelection is himself resigning, sparking the need for a  byelection.
Ray Serack cited personal reasons as the motive for his resignation, which is effective Jan. 11.
Rennie Harper, Nipawin’s mayor, said in a media release she thanks Serack for his service and wished him the best.
“While serving the ratepayers of Nipawin, Ray unfailingly approached his responsibilities on council with a deep sense of commitment to ensuring the best interests of the community were carefully balanced with the needs of the residents,” she said. “Ray brought significant strength to the council table and a viewpoint and stance that encouraged thoughtful reflection in all matters by council and administration.”
The resignation will be offically received at the Jan. 22 council meeting, where they will decide when to hold a byelection.
