A Nipawin entrepreneur has drawn from her personal experiences to open a centre for holistic stress management.

The Rae Centre, directed by Amanda Canales Polanco, had its grand opening April 1.

“Throughout my life I’ve struggled with some emotional traumas in which I didn’t feel I had the tools to deal with them and it led me down a path of substance abuse, maybe choosing inappropriate behaviours and depression,” she said. “Throughout that journey, I was introduced to a whole bunch of holistic approaches and it helped me gain the tools I needed to deal with the emotions I didn’t know how to deal with.”

Those approaches include reiki, energy healing, meditation, reflexology and aroma touch technique.

“That led me to being a practitioner and then helping people do the same thing.”

There are six practitioners at the centre that practice regularly, each with different specializations. There’s also enough rooms in the facility for practitioners that work on a less regular basis.

There’s also some space for retailers.

“It’s giving them the opportunity to have retail space where they probably normally couldn’t and they’d have to do all of the trade shows and stuff,” Canales Polanco said.

There’s also plans for workshops at the centre on topics like meditation and feng shui.

Canales Polanco said her future plans with the centre depend on the community’s response.

“Right now, it’s just providing the community with the tools they need to process their emotions because there’s so much emotional tragedy in the area and from there it will just be seeing as it goes and seeing what direction the community pulls me.”
