The Nipawin Hawks used a stingy defensive effort to knock off the Estevan Bruins 2-1 in Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League action from Nipawin on Nov. 21.
The Hawks allowed fewer than ten shots in each of the three periods, and just 21 overall, as they outshot the Bruins 46-21.
The game did not get off to the greatest of starts for the Hawks as they gave up the game’s first goal just 7:02 into the first period.
Logan Casavant was quick to respond for the Hawks, as he scored his sixth goal of the season just 2:07 later to tie the score at one.
The game remained tied until 4:57 of the second period when Keillan Olson scored his seventh of the year to give the Hawks the 2-1 lead.
Jake Anthony shut the door the rest of the way in the Hawks goal turning aside eight shots in the third period, and 20 overall to pick up his fourth win of the season.
The penalty kill was solid for both teams as they each killed off all five power plays against.
The Hawks now enjoy a couple of days off before returning to the ice on Nov. 24 when they visit the La Ronge Ice Wolves for the first half of a home-and-home series.
The back half of the series will be played in Nipawin on Nov. 25.
