North Battleford and area are among those communities benefiting from charitable gaming grants from the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority.

The SLGA announced the grants Feb. 13. Among those provided by SLGA this quarter were $55,842 to North Battleford and area, as well as $52,013 to Lloydminster and surrounding area. Meadow Lake and area received $25,834.

The quarterly grants are based on 25 per cent of net proceeds raised by groups and organizations through licensed charitable gaming activities such as bingos, raffles, break open tickets, Texas Hold'em Poker and Monte Carlo events. Charitable gaming financial reports are submitted to allow SLGA to automatically calculate the grant amounts.

SLGA minister Donna Harpauer said in a statement that the groups and organizations "work hard to better their communities through their volunteer efforts."

"Our government is pleased to assist the efforts of these volunteers by providing funding through the charitable gaming grant program."
