A major traffic blitz held across the province of Saskatchewan resulted in 422 tickets issued last week.

That is according to SGI, who issued a news release Wednesday on the results of the Operation Crossroads, a blitz that took place Feb. 14 and 15.

According to SGI, law enforcement throughout the province spent the two days looking out for motorists and pedestrians for violations such as failure to yield to pedestrians, failure to yield to oncoming traffic, jaywalking, disobeying stop signs or traffic lights, and other traffic offences.

The breakdown of tickets issued was as follows; 147 for disobeying red lights and stop signs, three for failure to yield to pedestrians, 15 for pedestrians disobeying a walk signal, 53 cellphone violations, 61 seatbelt violations, 78 for speeding, seven for prohibited driving, one impaired driving and 57 others.

SGI also reports that the month before, 168 tickets were issued to motorists in another safety blitz called Operation Hang Up Buckle Up. That blitz focused on non-seatbelt use and distracted driving.
