A number of SaskLotteries community grants have been approved by the North Battleford Parks and Recreation Committee at a meeting Monday.
The committee has approved a grant of $2,000 going towards a number of applications from the Gallery Singers, Battlefords Children's Choirs and Kamala Youth Choir for various concert and other expenses.
The grant covers about half of the funds the groups had been seeking. A number of their funding requests did not meet the requirements. The committee opted to go ahead and approve $2,000 in order to get the funds directly into the hands of the organizations as quickly as possible.
Also approved are the following grants:
$1291.76 to the Dekker Centre for the Performing Arts for assistance with the cost of performance staging;
$800 to Battlefords Scuba Community to conduct scuba diving training and certification program;
$1,040 to Chapel Gallery for assistance with costs to conduct artist workshops;
$1,499 to North Battleford City Kinsmen Band Association Inc. for assistance with purchase of chairs for the rehearsal hall.
In addition a request was made by the North Battleford East Indian Community Group for $2,500 for a Celebration of Lights function. However, that did not get approval as it did not meet the funding criteria.
