A 78-year-old woman died after being struck by a vehicle Friday morning in Humboldt. Emergency services were called to the intersection of Highway 5 and 9th Street at approximately 9:45 a.m. Three bystanders administered first aid treatment to the woman prior to the arrival of two ambulances. The woman was taken to Humboldt District Hospital and then transported by STARS air ambulance to Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon. The driver of the vehicle has been charged with driving without due care and attention. Both eastbound and westbound lanes of Highway 5 were closed for a short period of time after the collision, but reopened by 10:40 a.m. Members of the Humboldt Fire Department and the RCMP were directing traffic at the scene, one surprisingly devoid of any obvious signs of an incident. The vehicle in question, a grey Dodge truck, showed no signs of damage. The driver of the truck leaned against a nearby tree and made phone calls, but he too showed no signs of injury. It was the latest pedestrian-car collision in Humboldt, an occurrence becoming more frequent in the city."We are still concerned with the number of car-pedestrian accidents we see in Humboldt," said Derek Dagenais, paramedic and supervisor with Humboldt Emergency Medical Services, in a press release. "We caution both drivers as well as pedestrians to be mindful of one another."
