RCMP meets with family of St. Walburg victims

Members of the RCMP Major Crime Unit have met with the family of three Airdrie, Alta. residents found dead in a murder-suicide near St. Walburg.

Members of the RCMP Major Crime Unit have met with the family of three Airdrie, Alta. residents found dead in a murder-suicide near St. Walburg.

RCMP confirmed Friday they met with the family members of the three deceased: Darren, Hayley and Cayden Wourms, in both St. Walburg and Assiniboia.

The three had been found dead near the northwest community May 28.

Police say investigators met with family of the victims = June 1 and briefed them on all of the circumstances that were uncovered during the investigation.

RCMP also confirmed that based on the autopsies conducted Tuesday, the deaths of Hayley and Cayden Wourms have been classified as homicides while the death of Darren Wourms has been classified a suicide. Police also said there is no indication of any other party being involved in the deaths of these three individuals. It was also determined the firearm seized from the scene was used in all three deaths.

In a statement, the RCMP said, "An incident such as this has a ripple effect across many different communities. The RCMP would like to thank the many community members and victim services personnel in both of these communities who have provided comfort to all of those affected by this tragedy."

Family members continue to ask for privacy during this time.
