RCMP warn public after man robbed in staged vehicle accident

The driver of the vehicle came across a SUV stopped on the highway and saw a man laying on the ground nearby in a staged vehicle accident.

PIERCELAND – Police say that a man was threatened with a machete and robbed after he stopped to help what he thought was a person in distress.

On Oct. 27, Pierceland RCMP received a report of an armed robbery that occurred that morning at approximately 6 a.m.

The police investigation determined a motorist was driving on Highway 21 on Mudie Lake First Nation. The motorist came across a black compact SUV stopped on the roadway and a male laying on the ground nearby.

The motorist stopped to help the male. As soon as the motorist exited their vehicle, the male got up, threatened the motorist with a machete and demanded the keys to their vehicle. Another male approached, assaulted the motorist and also demanded the keys to the vehicle.

The motorist was robbed of a sum of cash but was able to get back into their vehicle, drive away and call police.

The male suspects were last seen heading north on Highway 21 toward Pierceland in the black compact SUV. One of the males was described as wearing jeans and a black hoodie. The other male is described as approximately 5’11” with a thin build and dark-coloured eyes. He was also wearing a black hoodie and a black neck warmer pulled up over his mouth/nose.

If you see these two male suspects or the black compact SUV, do not approach them. If you come across what you think could be a staged accident, do not exit your vehicle. Turn around and call police.
