Blaine Lake SARCAN has completed some internal restructuring. New friendly faces consist of Rick Rebalkin as supervisor, Darlene Ryland as head cashier and Nicholas Peters as recycling technician.
Along with the new staff comes the change in operational hours. To better serve the community, Rebalkin has decided to keep the business open during the lunch hour. To accommodate for this, Blaine Lake SARCAN depot will open at 8:30 a.m. and close at 4:30 p.m.
"By being open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. inclusively, we are able to accommodate customers returning beverage containers throughout the lunch hour," explained Rebalkin, adding, "We ask that people sort their containers by material type and to remove all caps and corks. Containers that are excessively dirty, mangled and/or broken, contaminated with foreign material and that are unidentifiable will be refused."
Rebalkin also requests people and organizations with large volume returns pre-book their delivery time, so that staff can best accommodate all customers in a quick and efficient manner. This would adhere to organizations having bottle drives or large events where returns would be beyond regular consumption.
SARCAN is contracted through the Unified Dairy Recycling System to accept but not pay for plastic milk jugs and paper milk cartons. "SARCAN Recycling also accepts end-of-life electronics for environmentally and socially responsible recycling in accordance with the Province of Saskatchewan's Environmental Management and Protection Act," states the website. "The cost of recycling these electronics is funded by Environmental Handling Fees (EHFs) paid to the Saskatchewan Waste Electronic Equipment Program (SWEEP)."
Acceptable products include computers; computer monitors; computer accessories such as keyboards, speakers, mice; desktop printers; portable computers; televisions; audio equipment; video equipment; cameras and telephones.
Blaine Lake SARCAN provides the community of Blaine Lake and surrounding area with a valuable recycling option.
