Sask. Order of Merit to Wilson, Ahenakew

Some familiar names from Northwest are among those receiving the Saskatchewan Order of Merit.

W. Brett Wilson of North Battleford and Raymond E. Ahenakew of Cochin and Ahtahkakoop First Nation are among the eight recipients of the honour. Lieutenant Governor Vaughn Schofield made the announcement Oct. 23.

Wilson, who now lives in Calgary, is being honored as an entrepreneur, community leader and philanthropist. Ahenakew is being honored as a First Nations leader.

Others receiving the award are Bruce Beatty (posthumous), Sandra Birdsell, Barbara Keirnes Young, W. Thomas Molloy, Brian Rossnagel, and David Thauberger.

The Sask. Order of Merit is the province's highest honor and recognizes those individuals who contributed significantly to the wellbeing of the province and its residents. The recipients will be officially invested into the Saskatchewan Order of Merit during a ceremony on Nov. 27 in Saskatoon.
