The race to see who will be the candidate representing the Saskatchewan Party in Cut Knife-Turtleford is now in the stretch drive.
The nominee will be known Oct. 29 following the second of two scheduled nomination meetings. The first nomination meeting is set for Hope Hall in Mervin Oct. 27 while the second and final nomination meeting will be in Maidstone Oct. 29. Registration begins at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. on both nights.
Votes cast at the meetings will be counted and tabulated Oct. 29, with a winner declared.
All Sask. Party members in the riding with up-to-date memberships are eligible to vote at the meeting. New members had until an Oct. 20 deadline to obtain a membership to be able to vote at the meeting.
The race has been an active one for candidates. At least three candidates have announced their intentions to seek the nomination to replace current MLA Michael Chisholm, who is not running again.
Among those in the running is Larry Doke, a former North Battleford city councillor and a Sask Party provincial candidate in 2003. His campaign has been active so far in the "sign war," with several of his campaign signs spotted in the Meota and Metinota area in the past weeks.
Campaigning actively with newspaper ads and a website has been Jacquie Code, a Meota-area resident with experience in farming.
Also in the race is Ethan Walker, who hails from Lashburn on the western edge of the riding. He announced his intentions to run for the nomination earlier this year.
