A collision between two semis near Radisson on Boxing Day caused the west bound lane of Highway 16 to be closed down from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. the next day.

Warman RCMP say investigators determined one semi was parked on the right shoulder in the west bound lane and was struck from behind by a second semi, also traveling west. Upon impact, the moving semi-truck caught fire instantly, which caused the parked semi-truck to also catch fire.

According to police, the parked semi-truck was hauling recycled paper and the moving semi-truck was hauling scrap metal. The collision caused a large pile of debris on the highway and center median, with a fair amount of fire and smoke.

The highway is now open, however some of the debris continues to burn in the ditch.

The driver of the moving semi-truck, a 38-year-old man from Ontario and a passenger from the parked semi-truck, a 33-year-old woman from Saskatoon, were taken to hospital in North Battleford with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the parked semi-truck, a 32-year-old man from Saskatoon, did not require medical attention.

RCMP were assisted by Radisson, Langham and Borden fire departments in containing the fire and getting the burning debris off the highway.

Visibility and road conditions were good at the time of the collision, sopolice continue to investigate.
