The 4 p.m. nomination filing deadline has come and gone and several seats on the Living Sky School Division board will once again be filled by acclamation.
According to Living Sky’s election page, no elections will be needed in six of the eight districts where candidates have been acclaimed, while no candidates have come forward in one subdistrict. At this point only one district is going to an election on Nov. 9, that being Subdivision 2, while a further call for nominations is issued for Subdivision 3.
Here is a list of where things stand in Living Sky’s election race:
In Subdivision 1 including Leoville, Medstead and Spiritwood, incumbent Ken Arsenault is back by acclamation.
Subdivision 2 including the communities of Hanford and Maymont is heading to an election as Jean Breton and Mary Linnell have filed nominations. Nominations there are now closed.
Subdivision 3 featuring Cando, Scott colony, and Wilkie, still had no candidate filings as of 4 pm Wednesday. There is a further call for nominations and nominations can be submitted until 4 p.m. on Oct. 21.
Subdivision 4, including Cut Knife, Hillsdale and Unity, sees board chair Ronna Pethick back by acclamation.
Subdivision 5, including Macklin, has vice-chair Kim Gartner acclaimed.
Subdivision 6 including Kerrobert, Lakeview and Luseland has Bernadette Heintz acclaimed.
Subdivision 7, North Battleford, has filled all three of its seats and will not go to an election: the only three candidates were Shaun Weber, incumbent Richard Hiebert and Rocky Omelchenko.
Subdivision 8, Battleford, has incumbent Glen Leask returning by acclamation.
Voters in Subdivision 2 will go to the polls Nov. 9 and it is still up in the air what will happen in Subdivision 3. For the rest of Living Sky School Division, it promises to be a quiet election day.
