Saskatchewan Transportation Company has announced adjustments to its passenger routes and a North Battleford route is one of those impacted.

In a news release Friday, STC announced the Blaine Lake-North Battleford route will be discontinued due to a lack of ridership. According to the company the route averaged only one passenger per trip over the past four years.

The Regina-Lanigan route and the Eastend-Swift Current/Mossbank route will also be discontinued. The changes are expected to come into effect May 18 and are estimated to save STC $300,000, according to the company.

The changes come in response to on-going reductions in scheduled passenger routes that have had a significant effect on ridership and increased the financial pressures faced by STC, according to the company.

In a statement, the minister responsible for STC, Don McMorris, said a thorough review of routes was conducted by STC "in order to minimize the impact on customers as much as possible."

"STC will continue to provide services to a wide network of communities, while continuously striving to manage expenses."
