Continued strong attendance is reported at the Credit Union CUPlex for the early months of 2013.
That was the news from the Tuesday meeting of the Parks and Recreation committee, held at the Northland Power Curling Centre.
The attendance at the new Battlefords Co-op Aquatic Centre continues to outpace that at the former Kinsmen Aquatic Centre by a considerable margin. According to the figures provided by manager Jodi Hargreaves, attendance in April 2013 was 10,880, up from 3,653 for the same month in 2012.
For the year to date, attendance is 64,611, compared to 16,088 for the same period in 2012.
Revenue totals are also up considerably. For the first four months of 2013 revenue was $353,029.89, up from $136,528.79 the previous year. In April 2013, revenue at the aquatic centre was $91,962.42, up from $20,444.48 in April 2012. The number prompted Parks and Recreation Director Keith Anderson to say revenues were the highest ever historically.
There were some early revenue numbers as well for the new NationsWEST Field House for the first two months of its operation.
Revenue in March was $48,699.03 and in April was $47,914.82, for a total of $96,613.85, according to numbers submitted by Recreation And Special Event Co-ordinator Siobhan Gormley.
City officials at the committee meeting mentioned they expect things to get quieter in May with more people taking advantage of the warmer weather, but an upturn is expected again in June and July again as more people seek indoor relief from the hot outdoor conditions.
