Plans for a new facility for Territorial Youth Services were front and centre at North Battleford’s Planning Committee last week.

Council heard from Perry Neufeld, who presented on what the organization’s plans were for 2021. The presentation was mainly informational as Neufeld outlined Territorial Youth Services’ expansion efforts.

What Neufeld particularly focused on was the new building project. They currently run programs out of a 24” x 38” double-garage shop, but the indication from Neufeld is that more space is needed.

The intention is to build a new 2,720 sq. ft building beside the Territorial Drive Alliance Church (located at 2302 Sadlowski Drive), and the intention is to break ground this spring. Neufeld said the plan is to do this in phases.

The new building is to house the organization’s youth programming, which has expanded over the years. Territorial Youth Services are a non-governmental organization of the Department of Justice, Young Offenders Branch, which has provided services to at-risk youth between the ages of 12 to 20.

Neufeld said the program started as a restitution program, but has since evolved to do pre-employment training and placement opportunities. According to their brochure provided, participants are involved in such things as building, yard maintenance and moving and hauling.

A fundraising campaign to raise $475,000 is under way, and so far $100,000 has been raised.
