A new employee code of conduct requires Nipawin town workers to be loyal to the town, avoid conflicts of interest, not divulge confidential information and dress according to their position.

Barry Elliott, the town’s administrator, said the code is a new requirement of the Municipalities Act that stemmed from an incident in the RM of Sherwood, where some council members failed to declare a conflict of interest when dealing with a development.

“We had a number of conversations about the contents of it,” he said. “It’s a made-in-Nipawin policy, for the most part.”

The policy was passed by council at their March 12 meeting.

A similar code of conduct was passed for council members earlier.

Horse-drawn transport

Council also voted to approve a business licence for horse-drawn transportation in Central Park.

Boreal Clydesdales will be allowed to operate from 6:30 p.m. to 12 a.m.

Elliott said council had recently passed a horse-drawn transportation policy.

“Within that [policy], for someone wanting a business licence and perform that service, it needed to come back to council for formal approval,” he said. “Most business licences wouldn’t come to council, they’re just part of our administrative process, but this was something new and different and a little unique and that’s the way the bylaw unfolded.”

The administrator said council didn’t really have any concerns about the business.
