Town supports Tim Horton TFW application

"That's the biggest question, when's the Tim Hortons coming? Everybody's excited about that." Those were words from Battleford's mayor, Derek Mahon, Tuesday after the regular meeting of Battleford Town Council.

"That's the biggest question, when's the Tim Hortons coming? Everybody's excited about that."

Those were words from Battleford's mayor, Derek Mahon, Tuesday after the regular meeting of Battleford Town Council.

At the meeting, council members approved a motion to write a letter of support for the local Tim Hortons franchise holders' application for temporary foreign workers for the proposed new Battleford location.

Mahon noted the location is still being referred to as "proposed," however he said "anybody can see there's large amounts of dirt being moved in the proposed location of the Tim Hortons so there's lots of action in that regard."

Formally, he said, Town Hall hasn't received a building permit application, but administration has had correspondence with the developer. He noted that while the franchise is held locally, the buildings are the responsibility of the corporate level of Tim Hortons.

"I haven't seen anything come to the council table as yet, but hopefully soon," he said.

The letter council dealt with Tuesday came from Brett Michnik, whose family has the local Tim Hortons franchise, with two locations in North Battleford. Michnik said they continue to hire locally and that is always their first choice, however they cannot find enough people, particularly for the overnights, early mornings, late evenings and weekend shifts.

When contacted by the Regional Optimist, Michnik said he really couldn't comment yet on the proposed Battleford location.
