Trent vs. Tara challenge hits week two

It's been over two weeks since the New Year was rung in, accompanied by a flurry of dreams and resolutions for 2011.

It's been over two weeks since the New Year was rung in, accompanied by a flurry of dreams and resolutions for 2011.

If anything can be said of the lunch rush at the gym, it's that people are hanging in there, staying committed to their goal of a fitter, and possibly leaner, new bod for the new year.

But for how long?

Trent and Tara hope to answer that question as they delve into the world of fitness resolutions, challenging (and possibly sabotaging) each other to a duel of epic proportions.

Tara:

Going to the gym has become a regular event for me. I'm doing the same routine as anyone who's signed up for the "Feel Like Heaven in 2011" challenge and it's getting easier every time I go.

I'm noticing I have more energy and am able to focus more at work. I've seen many people in the gym over the past two weeks, but Trent hasn't been one of them. Hitting the snooze button, are you?

But before I get carried away with gloating, I should mention that I've also been going to the vending machine on a regular basis.

AND, this past weekend I went to Calgary and the entire three days were a gorge-fest of sushi, waffles, Jamaican goat roti, beer and other no-nos. (but I did yoga!!)

Once again, working out has become a catch-22 for me, as I justify my indulgences with the fact I've been to the gym more often in the last two weeks than I have in the last two years.

Barb at Lifetime Fitness tried to sell me on Isagenix, but to be honest, that stuff is a little too hard on the budget and I don't see myself sitting down to a delicious meal of powdery shake. Instead, I'm going to vamp up my efforts by buying easy to assemble healthy meals and snacks so laziness won't reduce me to Ichiban and chocolate bars.

I'll let you know how that goes.

Trent:

Two weeks in and I am still surviving and after the very first day where I was coaxed into over exceeding myself and doing a full body circuit work out, I have since learned to go at my own pace and not that of a former junior hockey player, who is training to join the force.

As Tara has mentioned, I have hit the snooze button on occasion, but that isn't to avoid the gym. I have had a few lunch hour workouts and often try to get to the gym after work before I have to head out to a hockey rink.

I did weight myself this past week and according to the scale I lost 4.5 pounds. Something Tara wasn't exactly thrilled to hear about.

The biggest change is that I have improved my eating habits with five small feedings a day instead of the traditional three feasts.

I still would like to get to the gym one or two more times a week, and that is where the early morning might come into play, but for now most of my wanna be muscles are feeling better and I can get out bed now so nothing is stopping me.

Not even if someone at the next desk in the office offers to buy me a Big Mac.

I have one confession though, I did swing by the new MacDonald's drive through for the first time on the weekend, I didn't get a burger, just chicken wraps and fries, but that was between 7 hours of officiating hockey and I figured I earned it and it was the easiest way.

Oops, that isn't how it is suppose to work is it?
