Approximately 900 students from approximately 18 schools attended a Try-A-Trade event held at the North Battleford Exhibition Grounds in April
North West Career Development Partnership patterned the opportunity on a similar event hosted in Lloydminster over the past couple of years.
The idea is to expose students to the vast variety of designated trades in the province. With a current shortage of trades people in Saskatchewan the partnership says it is imperative to fill this demand by having the province's future workforce consider a trade as a career.
In a press release the partnership states, "We would like to thank the businesses that took time out of their busy schedules to attend our event. We were so pleased at how the exhibitors showcased their trades and engaged the students. From styling hair to laying bricks on a brick wall - there seemed to be something that everyone was interested in trying."
Participating businesses had the opportunity to demonstrate what they do, talk to participants about summer employment opportunities and let students know that they don't have to leave our region to find viable employment in trades.
